If you use the Windows Operating System, you probably don’t take advantage of the many features it has for you. Even though we’re discussing Windows 7 in this report, if you have an earlier version of Windows you can probably apply the tips as well. Do you want a way to make doing your work more convenient and more speed out of your computer? Window has some methods you can perform to reach these goals.

The themes and wallpaper that are included in Windows 7 are based on your geographical location.

What people don’t realize, however, is that these can be changed to more exotic themes. If you go to your C drive and type ‘globalization’ in the search box and, after clicking on the search results, you type in MCT in the search box, the results will be the five geographic theme sets. The geographic folders with the themes and desktop wallpapers are for Canada, Australia, South Africa, UK, and US. Even though these files are hidden, when you know where to look you can easily change the look of your desktop from Themes already installed on your PC.

A program that is very important to schedule to run regularly is the Defragmentation tool. Because they don’t understand what defragmentation is, many computer users don’t use this useful tool. Other people just don’t want to mess with it. Defragmentation is easy and it can make Windows perform much better. If you create or download many files it’s even more important to do this. Defragmentation allows your files to be reorganized in a way that makes them faster to find and conserves disk space. You can access the defragmentation function for each hard drive by clicking on the Properties link, then Tools, and Defragmentation. This will not take very long, unless you have a large amount of data on the disk. If you prefer, you can set up your computer to automatically run the defragmentation program on a set schedule.

Windows will run faster if you get rid of installed software that you never use. Most computers come loaded with software and applications that most users never open. Needless to say, your computer will run slower because of the memory these programs hog. After checking out the software pre-installed on your PC, you can easily delete the ones that are unnecessary. Check out which programs are on your start-up menu and are set to open automatically when you boot up. Disable the programs you don’t really need to open automatically. Why bother opening programs you don’t need and slowing down your PC in the process? There are countless techniques and options when using Windows than most people even realize. It’s simple for most computer users – even newcomers – to learn how to use their PC and function on the internet because Windows was designed to be user-friendly. Most people become at ease with the basic uses of Windows, and it only stands to reason that they are then ready to add some of the tips we’ve talked about here into their routine.
